A proposal in Venice and a Wedding in Cheltenham!

This week STB is lucky to be featuring both the engagement and wedding details of Kate and Matthew!

Kate and Matt have kindly shared their proposal and wedding stories with STB. Both (along with the photos and rings) are beautiful. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Bradford! Thanks for sharing your story with STB! The Proposal “Matthew whisked me away for a weekend in Venice. The sun shone, we gorged ourselves on pasta and drank bellinis in every corner of the city until one evening over dinner he produced the most beautiful sapphire engagement ring. We both cried and then went to sit on a darkened bridge over the canal and call our mums!”

The Wedding
Kate and Matthew got married on 24th May 2014.

“We had our ceremony at Pitville Pump Rooms in our home town of Cheltenham. It’s owned by the borough council so was far more reasonably priced than lots of other places we saw. But it’s also the most amazing Cotswold stone, regency style building that looks like something straight out of a Jane Austen novel. It overlooks the park with gorgeous mature trees, a bandstand and a lake.
Then, we loaded our guests onto a coach and drove them through the lush green countryside of the Cotswolds in early summer to Great Barrington Village Hall. This was another wonderful choice in terms of our finances as it was around half the price of anything else we looked at to hire for the whole weekend. It’s a beautiful building (Cotswold stone again!) built in 1835 with a vaulted ceiling, sprung wooden dance floor and gallery area. (There were lots of Game of Thrones ‘Red Wedding’ jokes!) The hall is a blank (but gorgeous) canvas but with flowers everywhere, home-made favours and table decorations by my wonderful mum and candles and vases, it looked amazing.”
Planning tips from the bride
“My top tip would be – let your friends and family help, but appreciate how massively lucky you are to have them! Transforming our reception venue took a team of around 20 of us so we all had a big pub lunch on the Friday and then worked our socks off to get things sorted. It gave us a real glow of how lucky and loved we are, which is hopefully what a wedding should be all about!”
Hair, make-up, photography:
“Wedding hair is incredibly expensive and if I’m honest, I made a mistake with this, paying way over the odds for something that was fine but not my absolute dream. I was much happier with my make-up plan – I went into a big department store and had a make-over a few weeks before. I then brought my own products and did this myself on the day. It gave me some much needed peace and calm on the morning of the wedding. Our photographer was Georgi Mabee and she was ace. It’s so important to find someone who puts you at ease.”
