When picking up my wedding dress a few days before our wedding, I asked for some advice on how to store my dress after the wedding and also when to bring it in to be cleaned. I was advised that the best time is up to 3 months after the wedding day (only by a professional). This prevents any stains staying on your dress “forever”. I’m not sure if forever is really forever but it’s better to he safe than sorry!
Storage-wise there are so many options available to the modern bride. Most choose a traditional wedding dress box that protects the dress from sun light (this can lead to discolouring ) whilst other storage boxes have a clear window to allow you to peek at your dress every now and then. It is advisable to check on your dress occasionally- every 3 months open the lid and check the colouring and material are ok. A standard cardboard box is not advisable as wedding dresses are made differently to a normal dress. They must be stored with white acid free tissue paper.
And then there is the issue of what to do with your wedding accessories after the wedding? One major accessory being your veil.
A new trend is to keep your veil and use it as part of your baby’s crib in the future. This is a fantastic idea and one that is truly sentimental and memorable.
Remember, have your veil cleaned and keep it stored well until you need to use it! 💜
Another tip (for Catholics) is to use the lace from your veil or material from your wedding gown to incorporate it into your daughter’s communion dress. However, this same idea can also be used for a baptism/christening dress.
