Q & A with Event Hire , Kay and Monty Vineyards

Breathtaking views, fine wine, delicious food and a magnificent space ready to be filled with your closest family and friends await all those who choose Kay and Monty as their wedding venue, and for the duration of your time here you will have the sprawling estate and award winning vineyards all to yourselves.

  1. Please tell us a bit about you.

I am Jennifer Woods. Since childhood, I have always loved to cook, feed and entertain. Studies in hospitality management and a career in the restaurant industry were the therefore the obvious choice. In the last 19 years, I have managed  a variety of restaurant & event venues from wine farm style to African style, casual to fine dining, including 5 years of owning/operating my own restaurant and intimate event venue. I have spent the last 3 years as General Manager at Kay & Monty Vineyards, Plettenberg Bay responsible for the restaurant, weddings & events, accommodation and wine sales.

  1. What services do you provide?

Kay & Monty offers a beautiful, light and airy venue set in the heart of the Crags surrounded by paddocks, rolling hills, vineyards and a dam. We provide catering, staffing, a self-catering house and food & beverage co-ordination. We can assist with local contacts for all other requirements.

  1. What inspired you to get into the wedding industry?

I find joy in making people happy. With my hospitality skills and calm personality, it is the obvious fit as a part of my career.

  1. What can the couple expect to experience if they chose your venue?

The venue at Kay & Monty Vineyards is a beautiful and natural space. A blank canvas where almost any vision can be brought to life, with a touch of farm & tranquility. Friendly service and delicious food from a team that will do all they can to make your day run smoothly.

  1. Can you tell us about a memorable or funny wedding experience you’ve had whilst hosting a wedding?

We have seen it all… from elegant to carnival style weddings, grandmothers as flower girls, photo shoots in a leaky canoe (without a paddle) in the dam, picnic style events under the stars to the sounds of a roaming sax player, horses eating flower arrangements… all beautiful and entertaining moments.

  1. When you’re not hosting weddings, what do you enjoy to do/or where are you likely to be?

When not hosting weddings, we are still always busy with regular restaurant trade, wine growing, making and sales, horses, cows and general farm life. Farm life never stops.

  1. Any planning tips you’d like to share with our Brides to Be?

Enjoy the process. Do what makes you happy, plan for your own enjoyment and don’t sweat the small details – your guests don’t know what was planned. Find someone (maid of honour / mom / sister) who knows your vision and can speak for you to be the go-to person on the day so that you can just enjoy the moments. And do just that, enjoy the small moments. Be present.

Happy Planning!
