Is a Sit Down Meal The Best Option For Your Wedding?

The food at your wedding will be one of the most expensive parts of your big day – the catering bill tends to take up almost half the budget. That’s a lot of money to spend on food. So you need to make sure that you opt for the right choice for you and your partner, and also, your budget.

The most important question that you need to consider is whether you should have a sit-down meal or something more creative. Traditionally, wedding receptions would have a plated meal, and that was that. Today, however, we have a lot more choice when it comes to the type of catering we want. From hog roasts and gourmet burgers to cheese and crackers and antipasto, anything goes.

To help you work out what the best catering option is for your wedding, I have outlined the most important things you need to consider.

Your budget

The factor that will have the most effect on the type of catering you opt for is your budget. While both plated meals and buffets can be done on a budget, in general, a sit-down meal will be a lot more expensive.

Start off by getting quotes from a few local catering companies, to get an idea of how much they charge per person. Use this to work out which is the most suitable option for you when it comes to the cost.

When you’re working out the cost of your catering, don’t forget to account for the crockery and table linen. While you could hire these, sometimes it can work out cheaper to buy plates, cups, and cutlery, as well as catering tablecloths. You can get all of these items fairly cheap at discount stores and specialist sites.

Personal preferences

Once you have worked out how much you can afford to spend, the next step is to take your personal likes into account.

Have you always dreamed of having an elegant sit-down meal or would you prefer to be able to graze? Is there a type of food that you have always fantasized about having at your wedding, such as oysters? Ask yourself what you want from your catering – this is important, as you’ll only get married once.

Take the theme of your wedding into account

While it’s important that you have the type of meal that you want, it’s also crucial that you think about the theme of your wedding. If you have worked hard to plan a themed wedding, you don’t want that ruined by the wrong choice of food, do you?

If, for example, you have opted for a vintage inspired wedding – a popular craze right now, a buffet could be the perfect catering choice. A couple of tables with checked tablecloths, food presented in baskets and little jars of wildflowers could fit the theme well. You could serve crusty bread, a range of cheese, local chutney, and cured meats.

Whether or not a sit-down meal is the best option for your wedding will depend on various factors. The most important things to take into account are your budget, theme, and personal preferences.

Happy planning! xoxo

Totally agree a sit down meal is way to stressful I can’t be doing table plans! We’re opting for a hog roast 🙂

Oh amazing! Hog roasts have really grown in popularity in the last few years- if you have a nice variety of chutneys and sauces your guests will be happy. Afternoon tea has also grown in popularity in the last few years.

Thanks for stopping by. When is your wedding?x
